I feel much better now. 9 year old Sam was rushed by ambulance to the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax overnight Monday. He had his appendix out at lunchtime on Tuesday. It came on suddenly and was pretty stressful for all of us.
Truth is, there are lots worse things that can happen any day of the week. I am grateful that we have it so good. Thank God. Throughout the turmoil and stress we had real peace because we knew people were praying for Sam and the rest of us. Thank you.
They sure don’t keep you in the hospital for long these days. His surgery took place on Tuesday afternoon and we were checking out on Wednesday at suppertime. He’s getting stronger everyday but still hobbles around like a little old man. His back hurts. His body is still pretty tense from the operation.
The rest of us did well during the ordeal. Chris and Jon continued at school. I stayed home from work on Tuesday to be with Ben and to wait for word from Victoria.
I took Ben into work with me on Wednesday. I have a private office so he and I just goofed around. Being a 6 year old boy and hanging out with dad at a big RV dealership…well, that is being a kid in a candy store. No question. I even had him out in cruising around in the tractor.
It’s times like this when I miss running most. Troubles seem to evaporate over the course of a few k. I’m shifting into a new era these days and may have a few minutes per day to lace up again, just like old times.
There is always hope. Hope always.

Glad to hear that Sam is making a full recovery and that you are able to lace up the kicks, albeit for a short run....good all round!
Good to hear Sam is on the road to recovery and that you will be on the road again too!
Wow. I check out of blogging for a week and look what happens.
Sorry you guys have been through this ordeal. Glad to know that Sam is on the mend.
I look forward to your return to running.
Oh my, glad everything's ok now. I'm sure the entire family is exhaling a huge sigh of relief. Your comment on hospital stays reminded me of when I gave birth in Alaska. Eight hours post-delivery was it. Then again, we didn't have surgeons so there wasn't that type of healing to contend with.
Hope the little man isn't walking like an old man for too much longer.
happy to hear Sam is feeling better. :) Be well.
Glad your boy is okay! Phew!
Ugh those darn appenixes! Glad Sam is recovering. I am hoping you get out and enjoy spring!
All the best to Sam - now that the little thing is out, he will never have trouble with it again.
So glad he's better. He'll bounce back in no time - children have amazing healing powers and seem to have no fears about moving again after surgery. Hope you get to enjoy a calmer few days this week!
Also, I bet Ben loved his special time with Dad - you might have to manufacture circumstances for that to happen again!
Glad to hear Sam is doing well.
A sick kid can be scary thing. I'm glad to hear he's doing better now.
Running does help. I like the "hope always". If we've got hope we can get through a lot.
Glad your little one is okay. Hopefully you can get back on the road again soon
Glad Sam's feeling fine now. That's a scary thing.
Old times are old times. Sounds like your new times are a blast. If you can lace the shoes up again then it will be just like new times. :)
