Tag!
I've been tagged by Sarah and I've been putting it off wondering what the heck to confess for a few days. Brace yourself for six random things about me:
(1) I love to bake. I don't bake near as often as I used to but I do have a secret chocolate chip recipe that I've developed and refined over the years. The kids love my cookies and beg me to bake them. The key to baking perfect cookies is knowing precisely when to pull the pan from the oven. I used to work early morning radio and had the afternoons off to play in the kitchen. While V was at work - and long before we even dreamed of a family, I would ply my craft in the kitchen. I once baked a 10 egg carrot cake. Once.
(2) I've met and hung with Garth Brooks on several occasions. Through various radio gigs I had the fortune or misfortune to meet hundreds of bands, singers, songwriters. One of the strangest gigs was introducing The Blind Boys of Alabama. The promoter for the event escorted me to the 'green room' to meet the boys before the show. He promptly left me there alone with the band. Picture this: 5 blind guys scattered around the room quietly mumbling to themselves. KFC bones and scraps littered the floor. These guys are really blind. I awkwardly introduced myself to the boys and tried to force a little conversation but it didn't go far. Finally, one of the boys, who must have been 70-75 years old piped up..."let's get this mess on"! Translation: Show me to the stage so I can hurry up and go home.
(3) I once rode an elephant into the circus ring. You have to grab them by the ears and step on their knee and hoist yourself up. There's really nothing to hang on to. I didn't really enjoy that but pretended to just the same.
(4) I spent 24 hours on a raft in December - live on the radio raising money for the YMCA. The raft featured a porti-potti and a nice view of the river. I also spend 12 hours on a cold windy November day 80 feet up in cherry picker broadcasting live with just a bucket to pee in. I did lots of dumb things.
(5) Back in university a buddy challenged me to date a different girl every night for a whole month (I remember it was March 1982...31 dates in 31 days). This guy is now a pastor. I still take his advice.
(6) My 2nd and 3rd toes on both feet are partially webbed. I know, that sounds freaky. I won't bother to insert a photo today. Someday though if there's enough interest. I never grow tired of hearing how fast I must be able to swim and why didn't your parents fix that when you were a baby. People, really. They're just toes.
I'm not going to tag anyone. The party ends here - unless you want to share something about yourself as a comment. Feel free.

I love the kitchen. I have a great Cheese cake that can't be beat.. oh and chili..
Cheers.
This is great! :)
1) A man in the kitchen is so hawt. But you're married so you can only be hawt to your wife and boys (ok, maybe they don't think it's hawt...but way cool cookie making Dad. ha!) [Lord, plz bring me a man who cooks. :)]
2) 3) 4) Cool, Cool, crazy cool.
5) How totally exhausting to date 31 people in 31 days. WOW. Was your wife one of them? :)
6) Webbed toes are in my family...I fortunately escaped them! However, I do live in Oregon where webbed feet are required to slosh through 10 months of rain.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
webbed toes? you're a freak. i can't associate with you any longer.
call me an anti-webite, but that's just strange.
you know i'm kidding. toes are toes, people. i'd look past them to get some of your cookies. ;)
The more I read these '6 things post' the more I realize that I lead a boring ordinary life.
I agree with you that the oven time is the most important part of any good cookie. I'm hungry.
I consider myself pretty handy in the kitchen. The only thing I consistently make a mess of is cookies. Never got the hang of that and now I guess I know why.
Glad to know the relationship with your pastor friend endures.
I am proud of my cookie making skills - there are two things I think are vital to the perfect cookie. 1. They have to be mixed by hand, no beaters (too much air, too fluffy). 2. I have to use the cookie sheets my Dad made. They produce the perfect cookie.
I love Garth Brooks. They boys and I went through a phase - we drove an F250 for a few years, and the only songs we played in it were GB. We did allow the occasional Kenny Chesney or Jimmy Buffet, but only occasional. People thought we were wierd (and maybe we were, because we did it the entire time we owned the truck!)
1982...mmm...O.K. so what university did this take place at?
This has to be the most interesting 6 random things that I have read in blogland so far. Especially the 31 dates.
I know those cookies, and I love those cookies. But I haven't had those cookies in a while Robb. What's with THAT?
Ah, you guys are too funny. Thanks for all the fun comments.
Brad - I know that you're a capable guy in the kitchen and on any marathon course. I'd like to hear about some of antics at sea. I know you could write a book.
Nikki - V was not one of those 31...at least I don't think she was. You know, I can only remember 2 or 3 names. It wasn't good. Word got out about the stunt and I took some heat from the ladies. I don't recommend this to anyone. In fact, i ran out of prospects...and was reduced to a telemarketer looking for clients.
Jeff - toes are strange little things. When I was a kid I remember my grandmother teasing about how she wanted to 'do a little operation' to fix me. I no longer wake up in a bawling lather but it did haunt me as a young child. Toes are toes.
Darrell - I think you lead a particularly exciting life with your work and family. I'm impressed with you running comeback. You are one of my bright lights.
Craig - you know the old Red Green saying, "if the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy". My pastor friend is one of those guys who has stuck it out in the same church for 25 years. I don't think he planned it that way. His leadership is well recognized in this region.
BOP - There's something about a woman and a Ford 3/4 ton truck. Wow. That's the coolest. I've never heard of homemade cookie sheets. Nothing beats a good cookie sheet - and I agree too about mixing by hand.
She... :) You're funny. Hmmm, let me just say that there are a lot of brick buildings and a library on campus.
Rob - we all do dumb things. I'm not proud.
Trina - semi-sweet choc cips or milk chocolate? I'll gear you up a dozen.

Okay, so if you're gearin' up a dozen cookies... the left coast could maybe benefit or at least thoroughly enjoy some, too. Could they still be warm upon arrival? :)
Show the toes! I wanna see 'em
Yes, I'm a freak like that.
I'd like to see those webbed toes too. My favorite was the blind boys who must have sensed your awkwardness from a mile away.
"this guy is now a pastor". Well. Of COURSE he is!
Are we good enough friends where you can get me to meet Trisha Yearwood?
